Great things are happening! After weeks of getting to know key leaders and getting involved in some local movements, God has opened the door wide on three exciting ministry partnerships: City of Refuge Church, Higher Expectations Church, and Foolswork. Here are the details.
City of Refuge Church
City of Refuge Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Houston is an exciting multi-ethnic church located near the Medical Center and Houston's historic Third Ward. Pastor Rufus Smith has invited me to participate in the church's long range planning process including helping them develop a strategy for church multiplication. One of the many exciting things about City of Refuge is their association with Forge for Families, a dynamic ministry that's changing lives in the Third Ward. Check out their brochure. The Forge for Families will soon be breaking ground on a beautiful new facility in the Third Ward. The possibilities for spiritual and social transformation are endless!
Higher Expectations Church
Higher Expectations Church in Humble is a non-denominational, multi-ethnic church located just a short distance from Humble High School, my alma mater. The area has changed a lot since my graduation in 1977, with a lot of low income housing and innumerable at risk kids. Pastor Bryant Lee has invited me to help him develop a strategy to serve this needy area. Building on Pastor Lee's concern for area kids, we are developing a mentoring program for middle school kids that will create a partnership between Pastor Lee, Humble ISD, and the young adult students at a local college. The strategy is very simple: Pastor Lee, who is also a Master Sergeant in the US Army and a dynamic leader, will mentor the young adults, while the young adults mentor the school kids. We've got some important meetings coming up, so I'm hoping to tell you more very soon.
Foolswork
Foolswork is a new kind of spiritual community for young adults with a heart for the city. The Foolswork weekly gathering will soon be located in the Heights, a multi-ethnic and multi-socioeconomic area just north of downtown Houston. Pastor Richard Hunt has invited me to help them...well, in a variety of ways, I guess! Foolswork is truly cutting edge and some very exciting partnerships are developing around it, with plans to extend Foolswork to up to six locations by the end of the year. My only problem with Foolswork is that their leadership group meets on Monday nights...which is when I have my Men's Group! For more information, visit the Foolswork website/blog.

Additional partnerships are developing in other areas of Houston. Things are beginning to happen! Thank you so much for your prayer and support. And stay tuned!
